Method
In my general psychotherapeutic practice, I integrate Western academic and clinical approaches with traditional Buddhist meditation practices and ways of understanding the mind. Since 1991, I have developed these elements into an eclectic therapeutic approach of my own. Clarifying, supportive, and interpretative dialogue, conducted while seated, is combined with mindfulness and guided imagery techniques practised either sitting or lying down.
As a psychoanalyst, I work with a slightly modified version of the classical psychoanalytic method, drawing on the theoretical framework and therapeutic setting established by Sigmund and Anna Freud. This includes the interpretation of resistance and transference, as well as latent and manifest dream content, within the broader context of conscious and unconscious psychodynamic processes. Depending on the diagnosis and the intended duration of the psychoanalytic self-exploration, sessions are conducted either sitting or lying down.
In palliative therapy, my approach is guided by the individual needs of patients with serious or life-limiting illnesses. Where appropriate, I also visit patients at home, in hospital, or in a hospice. Alongside supportive and informative conversations with patients and their relatives, I use relaxation and visualisation techniques to help alleviate anxiety and pain.
In coaching, supervision, and counselling, I combine specialist knowledge and discussion of professional methods with perspectives from cultural and intellectual history. Where there is an interest, I also explore philosophical and spiritual questions and offer guidance for further study and learning.
For younger colleagues working in psychology, psychiatry, education, and general medicine, I offer individual and case supervision. These sessions are generally recognised as continuing professional development by the respective training institutions.
For further information, I am also available for a personal consultation following initial contact by telephone.
Teletherapy sessions are also available until further notice.
